Teen Patti Rules: The Full List
A teen patti table is simple once the terms are clear. Three cards each, a pot blind and an ante before the betting starts, and then a showdown where the strongest combination of three cards out of your five wins the pot. The table below covers every rule that comes up in an ordinary cash game.
| Rule | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Cards per hand | 3 | Everyone is dealt three cards at the start of each round. |
| Players per table | 2 to 6 | Two-player tables are quick. Six is the usual full table in a tournament. |
| First to act | Player left of the dealer | In some apps the first player is the one with the highest card. |
| Entry fee | Pot blind + ante | Everyone pays the blind, then the ante. It builds the pot before betting starts. |
| Showdown | Best hand of five cards | You use three of your five cards to make the strongest hand. |
| Pure sequence | Same suit, in a row | Rank 2. 8-9-10 of one suit beats a plain sequence. |
| Sequence | In a row, mixed suits | Rank 3. Same shape as a pure sequence, one rank lower. |
| Color | Same suit, not in a row | Rank 4. 3-K-Q of one suit is a color, not a sequence. |
| Pair | Two of a kind plus kicker | Rank 5. Higher pair wins, then the kicker. |
| High card | Highest single card | Rank 6. The weakest hand in the game. |
What Is a Pure Sequence in 3 Patti?
A pure sequence in 3 patti is three consecutive cards that all sit in the same suit, such as 8-9-10 of hearts. Some players call it a pakki run. The key point is that it outranks both a plain sequence and a color, so 6 spades, 7 spades and 8 spades beat any color you are holding.
Same three numbers in one suit is a pure sequence, rank 2. The same three numbers in mixed suits is a plain sequence, rank 3. The only difference is the suit, and it is worth a full rank at the table.
A-K-Q vs A-2-3: Which Sequence Is Higher?
A-K-Q is the highest sequence in 3 patti, whether it is pure or plain. A-2-3 is usually the second highest, because the ace counts low in that run, and 2-3-4 is the lowest possible sequence. The ace works at both ends of the order, but it cannot wrap around the corner, so K-A-2 is not a valid run.
- A-K-Q is the highest sequence (pure or plain).
- A-2-3 is usually the second highest and outranks K-Q-J.
- 2-3-4 is the lowest possible sequence.
FAQ
- What is the highest hand in teen patti?
- A trail, also called a trio or set, is the highest hand: three cards of the same rank, with A-A-A the best of them. The full order runs Trail, Pure Sequence, Sequence, Color, Pair and High Card.
- Is A-2-3 a valid sequence in 3 patti?
- Yes, A-2-3 is a valid sequence and on most tables it is the second highest, sitting just below A-K-Q. A-2-3-4 is not a valid run, and K-A-2 is not valid either, because the ace cannot wrap around the corner.
- How many sequences are there in teen patti?
- There are twelve possible three-card runs once you fix the ace: A-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 4-5-6, 5-6-7, 6-7-8, 7-8-9, 8-9-10, 9-10-J, 10-J-Q, J-Q-K and Q-K-A.
- What beats a color in 3 patti?
- Both kinds of sequence beat a color. A pure sequence is the stronger of the two, then a plain sequence, and only then a color. A color is three cards of one suit that are not consecutive.
- Is teen patti the same game as 3 patti?
- Yes. Teen patti, 3 patti, teen patti master and the older name Flash are all the same three-card game with the identical hand ranking. Only the name and the branding differ.
- What is the difference between a sequence and a pure sequence?
- A sequence is three cards in a row in mixed suits, such as 9 spades, 10 hearts and J diamonds. A pure sequence is three cards in a row all in one suit. The pure sequence ranks higher.
